Free Breathing Dynamic Contrast Enhanced 3D MRI with Resolved Respiratory Motion

چکیده
PURPOSE: Respiratory motion is a major issue in abdominal MRI, especially for pediatric patients who have difficulty performing breath-holds. The problem is exacerbated in lengthy scans, such as for dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE) MRI. Much of the previous work has been focused on reducing respiratory motion artifacts through reconstruction correction schemes. An alternative approach is resolving the motion. This approach has been previously proposed where both cardiac and respiratory motion were resolved. Here, we adopt a similar approach to correct for respiratory motion in free breathing DCE-MRI by extending the data-acquisition space to an additional respiratory dimension and exploiting data redundancy to constrain the reconstruction.

Motion compensated reconstruction for free breathing dynamic constrast-enhanced MRI
INTRODUCTION: In contrast-enhanced MRI, medical diagnosis is often compromised by the motion, the need for registration and the difficulty of sustaining a breath-hold. A previously published motion correction algorithm GRICS (Generalized Reconstruction by Inversion of Coupled Systems) [1] has proven to correct for motion artefacts successfully in images acquired with a wide set of sequences, th...

INTRODUCTION The analysis of abdominal and thoracic dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI is often impaired by motion-induced artifacts and misregistration, caused by physiological motion. Breath-holding is too short to cover these long acquisitions and suffers from imperfections. A previously published reconstruction algorithm, GRICS [1], corrects for motion-induced artifacts in a single image reconst...
متن کاملFree-breathing dynamic magnetic resonance imaging of the abdomen
Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is complicated by tissue motion as well as by weak tissue contrast. The major source of motion is respiration, which can be dealt with by breath-hold imaging or by respiratory triggering. Nevertheless, these commonly used methods are known to have their limitations in terms of patient burden as well as in image quality. We propose a method that allows ...

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES The authors present their initial experience using a 3-T whole-body scanner equipped with a 128-channel coil applied to lung motion assessment. Recent improvements in fast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology have enabled several trials of free-breathing three-dimensional (3D) imaging of the lung. A large number of image frames necessarily increases the difficult...
متن کاملFast 3D Free-breathing Abdominal Dynamic Contrast Enhanced MRI with High Spatiotemporal Resolution
Purpose: Dynamic Contrast Enhanced (DCE) MRI is commonly used to detect and characterize lesions. For 3D DCE MRI, a trade-off between spatial and temporal resolution is often necessary. A free-breathing DCE acquisition has high scan efficiency, but image quality can be compromised by respiratory motion. In this work, a soft-gated locally low rank parallel imaging method is proposed for free-bre...
